Granted degree: Public account
Within the principles and core values described in the development plans for the University of Quindío and for its Faculty of Administrative and Economic Sciences, the professional profile for public accountants is stated thus: “Public accountants must carry out their professional duties in a way that leads to the construction of information that satisfies specific needs while up-keeping social interests and values. Because the work of public accountants contributes to the organization and control of wealth creation in both the private and the public sector, it is closely related to the country’s social and economic development.”
Public accountants will perform professionally in the following areas:
- Contributor to financial and accounting sciences: Designing techniques and procedures for the representation and record-keeping of economic transactions, which entails preparing financial statements, analyzing business operations, and creating financial analysis and projections. Developing systems to keep control over accounting and financial management, risk situation assessments and capital market operations. All of this implies a thorough grasp on principles, theories, methods and techniques associated with accounting as a field of knowledge and as a practice.
- Designing, implementing and developing financial and accounting information systems in order to either identify them, measure them, or communicate them. Analyzing and interpreting financial information by providing financial management reports. Formulating and evaluating investment projects.
- Auditing public and private companies as either a fiscal auditor, external auditor or internal auditor through both manual and electronic means.
- New international partnership programs undertaken by unions and government institutions demand that Public Accounting graduates help create social and economic development in our region. With this in mind, any attempts at a diversification of Quindío’s economic base by way of going into new markets necessarily require professionals with a global vision.
